San Diego Children's Discovery Museum sparks a love of learning

This museum is a spot for kids to play and learn while parents feel at ease. With just a few days left in February, get half-off admission for Museum Month.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Children's Discovery Museum in Escondido isn't just a place for kids to play. It's also a place for them to learn and for parents to feel at ease.

Marketing coordinator Bridget Lee said the museum sparks a love of learning so children can discover their wildest dreams.

"We want kids to be hands-on and messy and get into it. And it's all about we say purposeful play in that kids are obviously having fun," Lee said. "But then at the same time, they're learning comprehensive skills that they can take with them into schooling and into the future."

There's more than 15 exhibits that combine fun and creativity with STEM education.

Popular exhibits include the PNC Moneysense exhibit where kids learn about financial literacy, the toddler tidepool for kids under age two, the mini grocery store for imaginative play and the Trudy Brunner Discovery Garden where kids can water and sample fruits and vegetables.

Plus, there's guided programming every morning and afternoon for young learners to join. It starts with story time, a big science question, and a family workshop. There's a sensory-friendly version on Sunday mornings for kids with exceptionalities.

But the Children's Discovery Museum isn't just popular among kids- parents are big fans too.

"They love that this is a safe space that they can come to and they know, especially because our areas are a little smaller, you can see where your kid is at any time," Lee said. "So like to know that their safety and that they're always learning something and it's so hands on. It's just exciting."

From Fun Animal Fridays to special events hosted throughout the month, the San Diego Children's Discovery Museum is designed to be a well-rounded experience for kids ages zero to ten.

For the rest of February, bring your Museum Month pass to get admission half-off for around $6. You can also go any other day for just $11.50.
