SAN DIEGO — You may have seen little library boxes throughout the county filled with books. They are book-sharing boxes by Little Free Library, a non-profit group in San Diego.
In Clairemont, a Little Free Library Box is now serving as a food pantry and it's bringing relief to families during the coronavirus pandemic. Long grocery store lines and social distancing comes with challenges, people trying to find items they need while managing through coronavirus concerns.
Twyla Cox and Chris Lewis of Clairemont posted a message on Next Door- that they took all the donated books out of the Little Free Library to replace with food staples.
Cox says, not only are people picking up items, some are restocking with food and supplies. She adds, no one has taken advantage of the box so far and hopes this Little Free Library with food will remain a safe resource for families.
The non-profit informs the community to follow prevention advice from the CDC- stating some volunteers are choosing to temporarily close their libraries, and if they choose to stay open, they must follow best practices.
