San Diegans ring in 2024 in Gaslamp District

San Diegans crowded the streets of Gaslamp to cheer in the new year.

SAN DIEGO — San Diego restaurants, bars and hotels had crowds ready to welcome 2024 with beaming excitement from corner to corner.

“I think its just welcoming the new year with like as much joy as I can just to start off on a good foot,” Lily Divlasio said.

San Diego also served as a destination spot for people to spend the day. Mary Peloche is visiting with her family from Puebla, Mexico and taking part in many festivities the city has to offer.

“We are super excited, we are here just to hang a little bit around and to discover the city and what are the parties and celebrations for New Year's Eve,” Peloche said.

2023 was a year full of accomplishments for some people but now it's time for a new era like for North County Resident Alex Santiago who is excited to have more free time and spend time with friends.

“I graduated nursing school this year and I'm finally able to get out of my room,” Santiago said.

While some people will hold up a glass to cheer in the new year, it's crucial not to drink and drive.

“It's one mistake and you can kill somebody so it's better not to get behind the wheel when you can't and just either sleep or take other ways,” Gaslamp attendee, Rio Vazquez said.

Driving while intoxicated can have serious consequences that's why MTS and the North County Transit District are offering free rides until bars close at 2 a.m. For more information visit gonctd.com
