SAN DIEGO — The wait is finally over. San Diego’s new Major League Soccer team has revealed the club’s name, crest and look.
The name
San Diego FC, or San Diego Football Club is the moniker for one of the most anticipated new teams in MLS. The team revealed its name and crest during a ceremony in front of thousands of fans at Snapdragon Stadium on Friday. The reveal marks an important milestone in San Diego's sports history and for the new team coming to the city.
The crest
San Diego FC said the heart of the team's crest is called "The Flow." The crest is comprised of 18 lines representing the 18 communities in San Diego County, woven into one. San Diego is displayed at the top of the crest in an arch. The team said it's inspired by neighborhood arches and signs across San Diego.
The shape represents the strength and unity of the San Diego County community. San Diego FC said the club's crest and visual identity captures the, "vibrant essence of San Diego, paying homage to the 18 diverse cities that together create the heart and soul of this iconic community."
The colors
San Diego FC's official colors are Chrome and Azul. The team said chrome is a symbol of San Digeo's spirit of excellence and innovation. Chrome is also reflective. The team said Chrome reflects the community, which is why shades of yellow, orange, red and blue are visible. Azul, the second official team color, spotlights San Diego's deep connection to the Pacific Ocean and the region's famously clear skies.
"Our brand identity has been co-created with our fans and supporters over the past six months," said Tom Penn, CEO, San Diego FC. "We believe our crest truly reflects the essence and spirit of San Diego. Our Club strives to become the epicenter of football excellence and innovation in North America."
