SAN DIEGO — An 18-year-old was shot and killed around Chicano Park early Sunday morning, San Diego Police say.

A vehicle containing several men pulled into Paradise Valley Hospital just after 2 a.m., when the men in the car flagged down an SDPD officer already on scene for an unrelated call.

The 18-year-old victim was rushed into the hospital, but did not survive.

San Diego Police say they responded to three calls of gunfire in the Chicano Park area Sunday morning, just after 12 a.m., 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. During the second call, officers located multiple cartridge casings and a car with several bullets.

This is the second 18-year-old shot and killed during the Labor Day holiday weekend. A Navy sailor who was homeported in San Diego was killed in East Village early Saturday morning near Ninth Avenue and F Street.

Early in the investigation, authorities believed the shooting happened on the I-5 South ramp on Logan Avenue and California Highway Patrol took over the investigation. However, CHP determined the shooting happened around Chicano Park and San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were brought in to continue the investigation.

The victim has been identified, but authorities are not releasing his identity until the family has been notified.

San Diego Police did not provide a suspect description. Detectives say they are interested in any security camera footage available from the shootings.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
