SAN DIEGO — America’s Finest City has had a record-breaking year with visitors generating more than $14 billion in tourism revenue for San Diego County.
The San Diego Tourism Authority announced tourists brought in $14.28 billion in visitor spending in 2023, an increase of $1 billion compared to 2022.
The numbers
According to the San Diego Tourism Authority:
- Tourism had a $23.48 billion total economic impact on San Diego County.
- $14.28 tourism spending
- Estimated 30 million total visitors to San Diego County
- $214 million in Transient Occupancy Tax
- 214,000 tourism jobs
The increase in visitor spending is credited to San Diego County’s world-class restaurants, major league sports teams, attractions, conventions and outdoor destinations.
The city is also home to some of Southern California’s largest conventions and events, from San Diego Comic-Con to San Diego Pride. San Diego County’s newest venue, Snapdragon Stadium has hosted music’s biggest concerts and the world’s biggest sporting events this year.
The San Diego Tourism Authority is set to hold its annual meeting on Thursday and shared the record-breaking numbers with CBS 8.
San Diego was honored with multiple recognitions in 2023. Conde Nast Traveler’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards ranked San Diego #2 best city in the United States.
The Wall Street Journal named San Diego’s Convention Center the fourth best in the country and top choice for its city and surrounding areas.
