The most ticketed places in San Diego

Where are drivers getting the most parking tickets in the city of San Diego?

SAN DIEGO — From the beginning of 2023 through Oct. 31, the city of San Diego has issued 403,103 parking tickets citywide for a total of $25,259,800, according to numbers obtained by CBS 8.

This year's total number of parking tickets, from Jan. 1 through Oct. 31, however, was less than the past two years.

Top violations

As for the reason, city data shows that the top violations for parking tickets citywide were:

  • Issued to drivers who failed to move their vehicles on designated street sweeping days.
  • The next most frequent ticket was for those in violation of parking signs, whether for parking during restricted times or for other reasons.
  • The third, with 62,180 tickets from Jan. 1 through Oct. 31, was for drivers who failed to feed the meter.

Location

When it comes to location, city parking enforcement officers issued the most tickets at:

  • Two popular parking lots along Mission Bay, the De Anza Boat Launch Ramp, and Ski Beach on Ingraham.
  • Downtown's East Village neighborhood also saw thousands of tickets issued.

For instance, along a five-block stretch of 13th Street, from the 500 block to the 1000 block parking enforcement officers wrote 4,163 parking tickets from Jan. 1, 2023, through Oct. 31.

  • The majority of the tickets were issued for expired meters.
  • The second highest reason for tickets went to those who parked in the loading zone.

Below is a table where you can search your street to find out how many tickets have been written so far this year.

And while the number of parking tickets has dropped, the city's revenue for tickets has stayed the same over the course of the past three years.
