Nearly 20,240 SDG&E customers are without power in San Diego County as of Wednesday night as a safety precaution during the high fire danger. The number of customers who may lose power, according to the utility company, is about 20,629.

For some Ramona families like the Baldauf family, Wednesday night was the second night with no power. The Baldauf house has been running on a generator.

“It’s been rough over the past couple of weeks. It is nerve racking with the wind at night, and it is just rough in general,” said Michael Baldauf.

On Wednesday night, winds had slowed down, but they are expected to pick up Thursday.

Business has slowed down at Ramona Tire Pros where Michael Tarantino works.

“People are just anxious, and they don’t want to leave their homes in case a fire sparks, so no one is bringing their cars in,” said Tarantino.

At sun set Wednesday, the quietness of the back country was replaced by the echoing sounds of generators.

“If you think about the big picture, that is the worst that happens. We are all good. It is just an inconvenience, everyone is ok,” said Bruce.

The National Weather Service said a Fire Weather Watch warning will be in effect from Tuesday at 11 p.m. until Thursday at 6 p.m. for San Diego County mountains and valleys and inland Orange County.

The utility company said it will remain on high alert as it monitors windy conditions that elevate fire risk. SDG&E said that while approximately 33,000 customers were notified, it does not mean all of these customers will have their power turned off.
