SAN DIEGO — Local organizations want more to be done to protect sea lions and beachgoers at La Jolla Cove. This comes after another video caught sea lions charging beachgoers.
"This is wildlife we should share it with them. people should definitely respect it," said Nick while visiting the beach.
The La Jolla Parks and Beaches Association wants to address the issues without shutting down the beach to visitors.
"It has just become a crazy show and there's really no rules down there and that's what's hurting the cove beach," said Bob Evans, La Jolla Parks and Beaches Association president.
The Sierra Club Seal Society also wants action taken.
"I think one thing we can agree on is we'd like to keep the beach open year round and have people respect the wildlife that's there," said Robyn Davidoff, chair of the Sierra Club Seal Society.
In July, three sea lion pups were found dead in La Jolla Cove and the Sierra Club Seal Society believes it was likely caused by human interaction.
"They don't realize they're possibly causing the death of these pups because they're forcing them into the water and they can't swim yet or separating the mom from the pup and she's not comfortable nursing it so it'll starve," Davidoff said.
She said they want park rangers to monitor the beach and educate visitors and also like cones and a rope to go up to better separate the people and wildlife. The La Jolla Parks and Beaches Association is writing a letter to city officials in the hopes solutions can be found.
