Sentencing for Ali Abulaban, convicted of murdering his wife and her friend, continued until September

Ali Abulaban faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. His public defender told the judge she will be filing an appeal in this case.

SAN DIEGO — The former TikTok personality found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder was scheduled to be sentenced Friday morning, however, his defense attorney requested a continuance.

Ali Abulaban faces a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering his wife Ana Abulaban and her friend, Ray Barron back in October 2021. The jury reached a verdict May 29 after a nearly month-long trial.

According to prosecutors, the continuance was requested by defense so they can hire a prison expert to prepare Abulaban for prison.

The judge agreed to postpone sentencing until September 6.

Family and friends of the victims were in the courtroom, ready to give their victim impact statements.

CBS 8 spoke to Ray Barron's older sister, Lizbeth Barron, outside of the courtroom.

"We were preparing for this day, this final day, to start our healing," she said. "With this news, it's not over yet. It's almost been three years, we don't have any closure."

The case captivated the world and was developed into a new documentary about the former TikTok personality and convicted killer, Ali Abulaban.

The 90-minute documentary is called "TikTok Star Murders".

It takes a deeper dive into the case by revealing more about the Abulaban’s marriage, and the impact domestic violence and social media had on it.

The trailer teases never-before-seen interviews and videos, revealing Ali Abulaban's online persona and rising fame, as well as the real story behind his seemingly perfect marriage to his wife Ana.
