SAN DIEGO — Creative Performing and Media Arts Middle School Sixth grade students hit the record button on their phones to capture videos of animals in need of a home. They hope they can make a difference by using their video, editing and creative writing skills to put together adoption videos for the San Diego Humane Society.
“Every little bit helps, projects like this where students create videos can go a long way,” San Diego Humane Society Director of Public Relations Nina Thompson said.
Thompson said the SDHS has about 1,000 animals under their care with more than 400 of them looking for a home. Dogs, rabbits and other small animals are the stars of these videos with students capturing their best moments.
“They're really excited to take what they've learned the whole semester and put it to use,” CPMA Middle School Video Teacher Braiden Mincey said.
The project is called ‘Paws and Play,’ about 30 students were split into groups to tell the story of their assigned animal.
‘Servanto’ is a Pitbull terrier mix, he’s among the animals selected to be part of these videos. CPMA Middle School Sixth grade student, Bree Moyle has a vision on the elements she will use to showcase Servanto.
“Maybe some bloopers of him just going absolutely bonkers but I'm also going to show like his soft side that he just likes being cuddled and being a pet,” Moyle said.
Through these adoption videos, students want the community to understand the need to find these animals their forever home.
“They just want people to love on them and they just want to feel safe,” Moyle said.
The adoption videos are expected to be completed in about a week. School staff hope they can continue to do ‘Paws and Play’ again in the near future.
