CARLSBAD, Calif. — That report of a possible plane crash off the coast of Carlsbad Wednesday was unfounded, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
The light aircraft in question, which an observer believed might have gone down into the ocean, has been accounted for and was not involved in an accident. The pilot was doing acrobatic maneuvers in the area and was able to land safely at a local airport, he said. The maritime agency has called off its search in the area.
Around 11 a.m., emergency crews and rescue teams responded to reports of a small plane crash off the shore of Carlsbad Blvd. and Solamar Drive in Carlsbad on Wednesday.
Carlsbad Police reported that a low flying aircraft may have hit the water at least 3 miles off the coast of Carlsbad.
Carlsbad Fire, Oceanside Lifeguards and the US Coast Guard all responded to the call and were actively searching the area for confirmation of the plane.
