Spring Valley art teacher surprised with $1,500 in supplies to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Molly Robb asked Helpful Honda for art supplies so her students at Mt. Miguel High School in Spring Valley could make masks to celebrate each other’s culture.

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. — A Spring Valley art teacher got creative in finding help so her students could celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

As the Helpful Honda Helpers made their way to Molly Robb’s art class, inside students were crafting their paper mâché masks as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.

“It is one of the cornerstones of my class when you learn about other people’s cultures, you also learn about your own at that same time,” said Robb.

Robb knows how to be resourceful, she wrote a letter to Helpful Honda’s Random Act of Helpfulness, which is made up of Southern California Honda dealers spreading good in the community.

She asked for $300 in art supplies so her students at Mt. Miguel High School in Spring Valley could make masks to celebrate each other’s culture and Helpful Honda showed up.

“We are here to bring you a random act of helpfulness,” said Zuly Tellez, Helpful Honda.

Robb and the class broke out in applause. The art teacher knew Helpful Honda was coming but didn’t expect $1,500 worth of supplies and a gift card.

“An additional $500 for future are projects, you guys this is amazing,” said Robb.

She says the additional art supplies will be transformative and will have a deeper lesson for her multi-cultural classroom.

“It also teaches the students empathy as well as their own self-identity and once we realize that all people are important it really brings all of us together,” said Robb.

That cultural pride is found in Shaheir Hakim’s mask that represents Carnival.

“I learned how it impacts many people’s lives around the globe,” said Hakim.

This stroke of kindness is making a big impact on mural artist Camila Savala.

“I have to bring my own paint so I can work in this because we don’t have really good paint,” said Savala. “You are helping us, and we are so thankful.”

Helpful Honda says it’s the little things that can create big impacts.

“It’s students like her, why we do our random acts of helpfulness and why we surprise students and teachers who appreciate everything that they have,” said Tellez.
