How vendors fared during the San Diego County Fair

Wednesday and Thursday has the most traffic each week due to promotions offered by the venue.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego County Fair came to a close on July 7. Tristan Hallman with the fair said attendance has stayed pretty similar to last year's numbers.

"We're seeing about what we saw last year in attendance, we're two days shorter than we were last year, so our total number will be a little down, but what we are seeing is people staying and really getting their value for their dollar here," said Hallman.

Daily attendance averaged around 45,000 people per day — comparable to a sold out Petco stadium daily. Wednesday and Thursday has the most traffic each week which Hallman told CBS 8 is because promotions tend to fall on those days.

"Because I think people do want to go all out, we strive to have those deals, the one price ride promos, taste of the fair, those are the kinds of things we want to make sure people can go all out but save some money while doing so," said Hallman.

The final numbers from the fair aren't calculated yet, but CBS 8 spoke to vendors like Britney Arcos to see how business has been for them. She said sales have been good and they have seen returning customers to the store.

"They buy a lot, they're like I'll take this for my kids, for my son, for my daughter," said Arcos.

CBS 8 also spoke to Mark Crisp, the owner of Innovative Designs, this is his 20th year as a vendor at the fair.

"I was here during the pandemic, I'm the one who came and wrote a check and came and showed up and supported this fair when we a quarter, if not a tenth of what we had been," said Crisp.

He said sales have been steady, but not as strong as last year.

"Last year was stronger, I think it has a lot to due with the dates, it being pushed back and us being open past the fourth of July," said Crisp.

As for Arcos, she says working at the fair is an experience she will remember forever.

"I'm never going to forget this, this is my first time selling here, it's our first time, it's awesome," said Arcos.
