ESCONDIDO, Calif. — A 14-year-old boy who was involved in a hit-and-run on an Escondido street died Monday, August 19, according to Escondido Police.
"The officers rendered aid to the unconscious male and fire department personnel took over rendering aid and assisted the subject and officers are currently investigating that incident," Escondido Police Department Lieutenant Lee Stewart said.
Paramedics took the victim, an Escondido resident who may have been on a skateboard when he was struck, to a trauma center for treatment of severe injuries, police said.
A 911 caller reported spotting the victim lying in the roadway in the 1100 block of North Fig Street and hearing a vehicle traveling out of the area to the south at high speed shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police.
"We had a witness report that there was a gray sedan involved in this hit-and-run collision," Stewart said.
The hit-and-run driver remained unidentified and at large Friday afternoon; it's prompting the police department to ask for the community's help.
"The community plays a large part in us being able to solve incidents and crimes and we just really need to work together and collaborate to bring justice and to solve these incidents." Stewart said.
