SAN DIEGO — Mother Nature is staging a spectacular show this weekend as The Marine Room restaurant reopens its legendary King Tide Brunch after a five-year hiatus.
Located in La Jolla Shores, the iconic restaurant offers diners an unprecedented dining experience where massive waves crash directly against oceanproof windows, creating a maritime spectacle unlike any other.
"It sounds like thunder — absolutely magnificent," said Lauren Michael, La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club General Manager, describing the immersive oceanfront dining.
The $80 brunch, which has already sold out, features unobstructed views of powerful king tides. Peak tide times are scheduled for 7:25 a.m. Saturday and 8:07 a.m. Sunday, promising dramatic wave encounters.
The Marine Room's resilience is as notable as its views. Having survived two significant floods — one during World War II and another during a massive El Nino — the restaurant now features SeaWorld-grade glass engineered to withstand extreme maritime conditions.
Local patron Martha Kaplan, a longtime fan, recalls the restaurant's enduring appeal. "My daughter starts shouting, 'It's high tide!' and we come running," Kaplan said. "I've seen fish swimming in the window — it's absolutely amazing."
With its unique positioning and dramatic oceanfront setting, the Marine Room continues to redefine coastal dining in San Diego.
