2 pedestrians struck by vehicle in downtown San Diego

Police said a 58-year-old man lost control of his car, jumped the curb and struck two men leaving both injured - one of them with life-threatening injuries.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — Two people walking on a sidewalk were struck by a vehicle Saturday in downtown San Diego, authorities said.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue and police departments responded at 12:16 p.m. to a report of a vehicle crashing near a building in the 1600 block of Sixth Avenue, according to fire officials.

Police said a 58-year-old man lost control of his car, jumped the curb and struck two men leaving both injured - one of them with life-threatening injuries. The car also hit a light post, parking meter and tree. 

The driver of the vehicle was also treated for minor injuries. Officials said he may have been having a medical emergency when the crash happened. 

Editor's note: an earlier version of this story indicated that three pedestrians were injured. Police provided an update saying there were two.
