SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego men's soccer team has once again proven its dominance in the West Coast Conference (WCC) by winning its third consecutive championship title. The No. 3 ranked Toreros did so after a 1-0 nail-biter against Loyola Marymount University (LMU) on Saturday, November 16.
The match against LMU remained scoreless for most of the first half until junior forward Samy Kanaan scored his ninth goal of the season minutes before halftime.
It was the eighth shutout victory this season for the Toreros, who finished the regular season behind Ohio State and Duke in the Division 1 standings.
With this win, the University of San Diego men's soccer team is now the first team to win three consecutive men's soccer championships in the WCC since 2000.
Looking Ahead
The Toreros, who finished the regular season with an impressive 13-2-2 overall record and a 7-1-0 conference record, will now focus on the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
Despite the high ranking, the team did not get a first-round bye and will face UC Davis on Thursday, November 21, at 7 p.m. at Torero Stadium.
