Weekend rail closure impacts Oceanside to San Diego

The closure will impact both passenger and freight rail service between the Oceanside Transit Station and the Santa Fe Depot Station in Downtown San Diego.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — Construction work will necessitate a full rail closure between Oceanside and San Diego starting at midnight Friday evening and running through 5 a.m. Monday.

The closure will impact both passenger and freight rail service between the Oceanside Transit Station and the Santa Fe Depot Station in Downtown San Diego. Service providers affected include North County Transit District, Amtrak and freight carrier BNSF.

San Diego Association of Governments crews will work along the Del Mar bluffs to help stabilize the fragile landscape there and continue work on the Batiquitos Lagoon Double-Track project.

Crews will install piles between 11th and 13th streets and pour concrete to reinforce the existing piles south of Fourth Street in Del Mar. to reinforce the bluffs and other crews will simultaneously continue construction on a temporary platform parallel to the existing rail bridge near the lagoon.

Rail service is scheduled to resume a normal schedule on Monday morning.

SANDAG and NCTD advises residents the work will likely come with lights and noise -- including noise from large drilling equipment -- and increased traffic should be expected between North Torrey Pines State Beach parking lot, Camino Del Mar and Coast Boulevard north of 15th Street as construction crews access the bluffs.

Pedestrian trails along the bluffs adjacent to the North Torrey Pines Road and Carmel Valley Road intersection and at the ends of 11th and 12th streets will be temporarily closed throughout the weekend, the agencies reported.
