SAN DIEGO — A new chocolate treat is taking over TikTok: It’s called the Dubai chocolate bar.
What's in it?
The viral dessert is a thick bar of chocolate stuffed with toasted kataifi and green pistachio cream.
"We sell out every day,” said Habib Habib, who co-owns the Habibi Sweets located at 131 Jamacha Road in El Cajon.
The shop makes 200 bars daily, supplying them to nearby businesses and influencers.
"Yeah, influencers on Tik Tok that buy from us, we have other bakeries that purchase it as well. It's gone pretty viral," said Habib.
This type of chocolate was originally created by a chocolatier in Dubai.
In December 2023, a TikToker posted a video about it, and it's been gaining steam ever since.
Where you can find it in San Diego
CBS 8 found it in all three of the places we checked in El Cajon, which has a large Middle Eastern community.
Hakmi Sweets inside of the Tarbosh restaurant located at 1142 E Main Street hand makes the original, as well as ones with alternative flavors.
"We currently have four flavors right now. We have biscoff, peanut butter, Nutella and the original pistachio," said Hayat Hakmi.
Hakmi told CBS 8 that they often run out.
Aside from the boom in business, she says the best part is giving people an opportunity to learn more about their food and culture.
"Many people, when they come they are seeing new things, and they're very interested. They ask questions, and we're like, we're very happy to introduce our culture and what our culture presents through desserts," said Hakmi.
Another place to find Dubai chocolate is at Heavenly Sweets inside the Harvest International Market located at 733 E Main Street, where if you want, you can also buy the supplies to make it yourself.
A full bar will cost you about $15.
