SAN DIEGO — Fire crews are monitoring hotspots Thursday morning of a wildfire that broke out near SR-67 and Willow Road near Lakeside.
The blaze, which broke out Wednesday, had burned almost 5 acres.
According to Battalion Chief Jon Jordan, from the Lakeside Fire Department, there were "some spotting across the 67 onto the east side of the 67...but with the good work of our fire department on the ground and our helicopters that we had on scene we were able to contain the fire to 4.5 acres with no structures damaged.”
This fire prompted an evacuation warning from the Cedar Fire Historical Monument to the San Diego River Park Trailhead.
The fire was reported at 3:45 p.m. and started in a brush area, which quickly spread underneath the overpass along the highway causing traffic to be backed up for hours.
With smoke billowing in the air and the blaze actively burning, cars were blocked off as firefighters worked to contain the fire Wednesday.
Firefighters tell CBS 8 they are still investigating the cause of the fire, but say extreme heat temperatures including high winds made it difficult to contain.
Crews say there were no structures burned down, however, there was one firefighter injured, and he currently remains in the hospital.
A tweet was sent out from ReadySanDiego, confirming that people with access or functional needs, and/or large animals should have left the area.
There is a temporary evacuation point at Lakeside Christian Church at 13739 El Monte Road.
