SAN DIEGO — A brush fire spread over about 10 acres on the grounds of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Thursday, causing no reported structural damage or injuries but forcing a closure of a stretch of nearby freeway.
The wind-driven blaze erupted near the intersection of state Route 163 and SR-52 shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported. Authorities shut down the westbound lanes of the latter freeway in the area while ground and airborne crews worked to extinguish the flames, officials said.
As of 4 p.m., firefighters had the spread of the blaze halted, according to SDFRD public affairs.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
