SAN DIEGO — Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish a 5-acre brush fire burning on Battle Mountain in Rancho Bernardo alongside northbound Interstate 15 Monday afternoon.
The flames broke out near Escala & Chretien Ct. around 2:45 p.m. and were burning at a slow rate of spread, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.
The two right lanes of Northbound I-15 were closed by the California Highway Patrol. Escala Road near Pomerado Road was also closed while fire crews worked on the blaze.
Evacuations were lifted at 4:45 p.m. according to San Diego Fire Department incident commander for those in an apartment complex and several homes in the immediate area of the fire.
The SDFD incident commander posted that the fire was 90% contained as of 5:30 p.m.
Fire crews will remain on scene for several hours, possibly overnight to mop up and make sure that no hot spots flare up.
No structural damage or injuries have been reported.
