SAN DIEGO — San Diego Police are investigating a homicide in Talmadge after a woman was shot and killed at an apartment complex.
It happened Monday night around 8:45 p.m. at Talmadge Gateway Apartments on Euclid Avenue.
San Diego Police told CBS 8 a man broke into an apartment unit and attempted to steal a a 59-year-old resident's wallet. A 38-year-old woman in the apartment with the man attempted to intervene in the robbery, but was shot and killed by the man who broke in. The suspect fled on foot, police said.
In a late Tuesday morning press release, police said officers arrested a 30-year-old man running from the scene shortly after the shooting, but later determined he was not the person who shot the woman in the apartment. The 30-year-old was arrested on a probation violation and weapons charges.
The shooting suspect remains outstanding, and detectives are continuing to investigate.
The identity of the victim has not been released pending family notification.
