SAN DIEGO — Construction has been rampant in Clairemont for months, especially along Clairemont Drive.
Although work near the intersection of Clairemont Drive and Burgener Boulevard was completed, the road was left bumpy and uneven. Now, residents are wondering if crews will come back to repave it.
Working for you, we reached out to the City of San Diego for answers.
Clairemont resident Georgiana Becker avoids driving down Clairemont Drive near the intersection because of the uneven road.
"It’s awful, I hardly go there anymore," she said. "I’m not doing those shops and stores as frequently because it’s such a crazy drive."
Becker isn't the only one who feels this way. The city posted on Facebook Sunday once the work was completed. Some residents commented on the post, one saying, "Now it’s time to replace the street!!! It’s undriveable!!” Another said, “This happened months ago, and the road is horrible! The new paved sections over the construction are like driving on a roller coaster. This needs to get fixed!!”
The street was left bumpy after crews installed pipelines under the street as part of the Pure Water San Diego project. The project aims to provide half of the city's water locally by 2035 by running wastewater through the pipes to facilities.
"On Clairemont Dr it doesn’t look like they’re coming back, it looks like they’re finished and they’re done and that’s it," Becker said.
Working for you, CBS 8 reached out to the city asking if the street will be repaved. In a statement they said:
“The pavement currently in place is temporary. As part of this project, the road will be repaved curb-to-curb and re-striped. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2025.”
The city said there's no specific start date for when the repaving will begin, but the community will be notified when it is scheduled. Residents can sign up for construction email updates on any or all of the Pure Water Phase 1 projects here.
