Holiday shopping mecca in San Ysidro | Affordable and unique finds

San Ysidro has one of the world’s busiest border crossings. It turned into a shopping mecca welcoming visitors to discover hidden treasures.

SAN DIEGO — San Ysidro has one of the world’s busiest border crossings. During the holidays, it's turned into a shopping mecca welcoming visitors to discover hidden treasures and take advantage of seasonal sales.

CBS 8 reporter Ariana Cohen first stopped at Carolin's Shoes on San Ysidro Blvd. to check out the great deals on winter coats, boots, backpacks and more.

18-year-old Caroina Lin works there. Her mother, Olivia, started the family business. "She started it after she moved from Mexico. My dad moved from Taiwan and making their own business was the most efficient to make money," said Lin. "By coming here, you are helping outr business and making profit."

Around the corner is Sunny Perfumes, a discount store where people can buy brand-name perfumes at a lower price and resell it for profit. "I've been here 16 years at the same location. Customers can make money on re-sale and it's a much better deal than big brand stores. Shop local, please do visit us," said Sunny Perfume's owner, Sunil Gakhreja.

And not too far away is Prime Shoes and More on San Ysidro Boulevard. The store offers a variety of designer items at lower prices, from sparkly shoes, boots, warm coats and clothing.

Cohen made a final stop at Bargain Bazaar; a family-owned business with an array of discounted items from colorful blankets, clothing, and hats that kids love!

"It's very different than a big box store. You can buy 10-15 items at a very cheap cost and not even spend $100. Happy holidays! Stay safe out there and come support local businesses," said Bargain Bazaar owner, Rahil Iqdal.

Check out and see what you can find for the holidays! The San Ysidro shopping experience promises something for everyone.
