SAN DIEGO — A viewer in Mountain View reached out to CBS 8 and told us about a noisy generator at a nearby business, and how it’s disturbing the people who live in the neighborhood.
Robert Mora lives next to the business and says the noise started a few months ago.
"It can be on as early as 6 a.m. to as late as 11 p.m. at night,” he said.
Next to his home, Reliable Transportation is using a gas-electric generator at their mobile office. Mora has recorded the noise from inside his house and his yard. He said noise levels have measured more than 80 decibels.
"We feel like prisoners in our own house because we can't go outside anymore and enjoy the air, gardening and the nice things,” he said,
He filed a complaint with the city on April 2. Mora says his two young children are homeschooled and worries it's taking a toll on their mental health.
He's also concerned about the business's bright flood lights shining into his home.
"My wife and I are concerned for their longterm health because we don't know when this nuisance is going to end,” he said.
CBS 8 spoke with the manager at Reliable Transportation. Felix Barela said the generator is only temporary as they wait for SDG&E to install power.
“We never planned to use it. We had to go buy one and we're just waiting on them. We've signed everything, all the paperwork, permits and have been paying taxes on the property,” Barela said.
And says electricians are redirecting the lights to face away from homes and adding a motion sensor.
"I want them to run a business. I'm pro business but at the same time it can't be impacting people's lives in the neighborhood. It's not just me but my other neighbors have complained as well,” Mora said. ”I just want this resolved soon.”
CBS 8 reached out to the city and learned the Reliable Transportation has a permit to install an electrical meter and temporary power pole.
The city says a building land use enforcement investigator inspected the property for violations, but no enforcement remedies have been issued.
