EL CAJON, Calif. — A speeding car crashed through a home in El Cajon early Tuesday morning. CBS 8 is working for you to see what safety measures can be taken after speaking with neighbors who want to see more done to slow down speeding drivers.
"That's just how close it was to us. It could have been us," said Alana Bell, who lives next door to the home the car crashed into.
The car left left tire marks in Bell's front yard along Jamacha Road.
"It's either somebody speeding, this is not the first time something like this happened. Years ago a car flipped in our front yard," she said.
El Cajon Police say excessive speed and the sharp curve were factors in the crash. The driver, a 26-year-old man, was uninjured and released after a sobriety test. The couple who live inside this home were sleeping when the car came barreling through their bedroom, according to police.
Bell said her husband's truck has also been hit while parked outside. Now residents are hopeful measures can be taken to make the area safer for drivers and residents.
"At least put another stop sign or a light that would have to slow the people down from coming down this hill they go so fast. They sometimes have the police monitoring it but they can't have them out here 24/7," she said.
CBS 8 took resident concerns to the city of El Cajon and received the following response:
"The City is aware of the accident. The City will be analyzing the causes of the accident, the accident history in the area, and speed data for the street segment. Based on that analysis, staff will recommend possible changes to the street segment. In the meantime, the City plans to install a speed feedback sign."
