SAN DIEGO — What was supposed to be a 25,000-square-foot brewery and event space is now called an eyesore by people living in La Mesa.
"As you can see, it's an eyesore and its been there for 10 years, I think," said La Mesa resident, Anne Tower.
Tower is one of many CBS 8 viewers who reached out to us, asking what is going on with a vacant building off Fletcher Parkway.
"If you lived here, would you want to see this property every day?" said Tower.
Back in 2018, the property owner, David Cohn, had plans to turn the venue into the “Draft Brewing Company," an activity-rich beer garden with mini golf, kids play area and more.
CBS 8 reached out to Cohn who is also with the Cohn Restaurant Collective. He says his plans for the vacant building, which was to be a separate business venture, never came to fruition.
Cohn also sent CBS 8 this statement:
"Unfortunately, the plans for a restaurant at this site were put to an end by Covid and inflation. We sincerely share our neighbors’ concerns and have been diligent in cleaning and maintaining the site on an almost daily basis to offset the illegal dumping and other activity at a cost of thousands of dollars per month. We are currently in talks with a number of buyers for the property and hope to make an exciting announcement as soon as a transaction is finalized."
Meanwhile, Tower and many other people living in La Mesa are ready for something to be done about it already.
"I would like something to happen with it, something that when we come into this particular mall, we have something other than this monstrosity to look at," said Tower.
