RAMONA, Calif. — A Ramona man with a hidden talent is finally ready to share his gift with the world.
In this Zevely Zone, I made a new friend.
At 76 years old, Ron Poundstone proves you're never too old to 'Ride the Wind.'
Ron grew up working hard on a farm and never stopped putting his family first. He worked his whole life and put his dreams on hold, but now it's time for him to shine. Ron has hundreds of unfinished songs and 25 songs ready to record. I asked him how many songs he currently has rolling around in his head at this very moment. "Right now, probably like twenty-two," laughed Ron.
45 years ago, Ron co-founded a company called Quality Hydroseeding.
Over the decades, his company and its product quite literally kept growing and growing.
"Every time I was writing a song and playing a song, my wife would yell at me; I have to go out and collect a check from somebody you know?" said Ron.
The next time you're driving down the freeway surrounded by beautiful wildflowers, Ron was probably the guy who sprayed his magic green potion there a few weeks before.
Along freeways?
"Yes," said Ron.
In backyards?
"Yes," said Ron.
On a car?
"Yes, ha, ha, ha," said Ron.
His publicity stunt made the local news years ago when Ron grew grass on his car.
A video shows Ron on top of his car mowing grass. Just like the grass and wildflowers he left across California, Ron says it's time for his dreams to blossom.
"I want to put out positive music," said Ron from his music studio.
Ron has 25 polished songs he wants to share with the public, starting with his favorite one, 'Ride the Wind.' He's hoping someone will read this story and invite him to share his music in public. If you've ever wanted to hear a combination of Johnny Cash and Jim Morrison, Ron Poundstone is ready to 'Ride the Wind.'
When he finished his song, Ron asked me, "You like that?"
I could only say, "Wow. I loved that."
Ron would like to share his music at any venue, party or 'Open Mic Night'. If you'd like to offer him that chance, call him at 760-443-4509. You can also email Ron Poundstone at poundstone@mac.com. For more information about his hydroseeding company, click here.
