OCEANSIDE, Calif. — The Super Bowl is this Sunday. Before you watch the big game on CBS 8, you may want to brush up on your football trivia.
In this Zevely Zone, I hit the streets with my Super Bowl Quiz. So, you say you love football and you're watching the game, but how much do you really know about the Super Bowl?
My first question was where is the Super Bowl being played this year? "The Super Bowl is going to be played right up in there in Dallas," said Sterling.
I blew my whistle and told Sterling he was wrong. I then moved on to a mother-daughter duo with the same question.
"Where is the Super Bowl being played this year?" I asked. "Las Vegas," said Isabela.
Then came our first fumble. I asked what number Super Bowl this year's game is. "Oh the X and the V and the one and the one," said Teresa. I asked if it would help if I showed her the Roman numeral. "Oh, I thought it would help but it didn't," laughed Teresa.
But other football fans paid attention in elementary school and knew what LVIII means. "58," said Tim. Next question? I wondered if football fans could spell Super Bowl correctly.
Everyone got the letters right but most spelled Super Bowl as one word like this; 'Superbowl'.
"Incorrect, incorrect, incorrect," I repeatedly said as I blew my whistle. Once again football fan Tim was our star student.
"Two words, you knew that?" I asked. Tim replied, "I do."
Next question what's the most popular Super Bowl Snack? I heard a variety of snacks such as peanuts, hot dogs and chicken wings.
"Incorrect. Chips and salsa," I said. Next question: What's the number one takeout food on Super Bowl Sunday?
"Wow. I'm going to have to, its Chinese food," said Sterling again. Nope, pizza.
But San Diegans all got the next question right. What's the number one adult beverage on Super Bowl Sunday? Yep, beer. Next up, I asked what's more interesting the commercials or the game.
"The commercials," said Raymond. "Depends on the team," said another viewer. "I'd say 50/50," said Tim. "Probably the commercials," said another viewer. "The game," said a big Dolphins' fan still licking her wounds from a first round playoff loss.
My final question was could they go deep? "Hot route, CBS 8," I screamed as they snapped the ball. The quiz may have been hit and miss, but our on-field performance ended with touchdowns and Zevely Zone End Zone celebrations.
I am heading to Las Vegas with photojournalist Jon Stinebaugh Tuesday morning.
