SAN DIEGO — While the Major League Baseball season may be over, three dedicated Padres fans found a unique way to celebrate their favorite team.
In a day-long adventure, three generations of superfans embarked on a mural scavenger hunt across San Diego, visiting 15 Padres-themed murals.
The idea came from Romi Adachi, affectionately known by her family as "Crazy Grandma." Joined by her daughter Lisa and granddaughter Alex, the trio set out on an eight-hour journey, covering 150 miles to see murals featuring Padres legends and current stars alike.
"This is Grandma, Crazy Grandma," Lisa explained, introducing the mastermind behind their baseball-themed adventure.
The family's tour included murals of Padres icons and current players:
"This is Trevor Hoffman mural in Encinitas," Lisa shared, showcasing photos from their trip. "We've got Tony Gwynn. This is Pete Seidler. There's Machado. This is the Joe Musgrove one downtown."
The murals featured a mix of Padres history and present-day stars, reflecting the team's rich legacy and bright future.
Romi's fandom dates back to the 1980s, but her enthusiasm spans every era of Padres baseball.
Her favorite player? Yu Darvish, a nod to her Japanese heritage.
"Yu Darvish, you rock," Romi cheered, wearing a 'Yu Darvish' shirt to match her enthusiasm.
When asked for her favorite cheer for Darvish, Romi exclaimed, "Ganbatte!" She explained, "It means do your best."
Despite the recent playoff loss to the Dodgers, which Lisa joked was "too soon to talk about," the family's spirits remain high.
They've already planned their next baseball adventure.
"Yes, Padres, we are coming to see you guys in Peoria," Romi announced, referring to their upcoming spring training trip to Arizona.
As the offseason continues, these super fans prove that Padres' passion knows no bounds, keeping the spirit of baseball alive in San Diego year-round.
