Reality television star hosts free flag football camp for girls

Big Brother winner, Kaycee Clark, launches 'Champs in Cleats' for female athletes.

SAN DIEGO — Reality television star Kaycee Clark is hosting a flag football camp that she hopes will empower girls on and off the field.

'Champs in Cleats' is a flag football camp exclusively for middle and high school girls. The camp is designed to build confidence, teach teamwork, and enhance fundamental football skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.

"Thank you guys so much for coming out," said Kaycee to a group of female athletes on the football field at Mira Mesa High.

Kaycee was the champion of Big Brother Season 20 and The Challenge Season 37.

"I am so grateful that that happened, and what helped me win Big Brother and The Challenge is my mindset," said Kaycee.

She is a passionate advocate for creating opportunities for girls in sports. Champs in Cleats' vision is to inspire the next generation of female athletes.

Standing on this field, Kaycee is back on her home turf.

"Yes, I went to high school here. I graduated from here in '06, don't tell anyone," said Kaycee.

Back then, flag football wasn't offered to female athletes.

"To see where it's at now, I mean, you got the WNBA, right? It's up and booming. I mean, now they are going to have girls' flag football in the 2028 Olympics. Who would have ever thought?" said Kaycee, who wants to provide spaces where girls can learn and thrive in football.

"We decided to create a camp for girls where we can teach them to have the right mindset, mental toughness, how to become an athlete where they can gain that confidence in themselves in a male-dominated sport," said Kaycee.

In case you need a reminder, Kaycee played professional tackle football for the San Diego Surge.

"You know she always brought the energy; we didn't need to pull it out of her. She was someone you were grateful to be on the same side of the field with," said Dae Sablan, Kaycee's Surge teammate and the current Junior Varsity coach at Mira Mesa. "The sport is just growing huge, like at a fast pace," said Dae.

Mira Mesa senior Suraya Holloway wants to make the Olympic team and plans to attend Kaycee's camp with confidence.

"I always put in 100 percent effort in my work," said Suraya.

Champs in Cleats is all about confidence but will also study the mind. "How to stay calm under pressure, how to believe in themselves. How can I market myself as a student-athlete? How can I put myself out there? How do you package yourself online?" said Kaycee.
