DEL MAR, Calif. — San Diegans have been flocking to our county fair for the past 144 years. In this Zevely Zone, I shared fairgoers favorite memories of all time as well as my own.
We all go to the San Diego County Fair for the rides, food and games but what matters most is making memories. Going strong since 1880, San Diegans keep experiencing magical moments.
"We just come and walk through all of the exhibits," said a mother with her daughters. "We've been going every year since we were kids," said two sisters.
I asked a husband for his favorite fair memory of all time.
"Being with her. We come every year," said the husband as he gave his wife a kiss.
We love the people we bring and the long lasting traditions.
"The rides," said two boys. A girl added, "I like going to get corn dogs."
I asked another girl for her favorite memory.
"Oh my gosh that's a hard one I don't know I just come here with my friends a lot so it's really nostalgic," she said.
For some reason, fairgoers can't resist the games.
"Prize every time, winner, winner, winner," said one game vendor. "Come on you guys, it only takes one to win," yelled another vendor.
You might think my favorite memory was the day I milked a goat at the fair but nope! It also wasn't the time I soared on the flying trapeze. It was the day I brought my daughters to the San Diego County Fair in 2016 when they won the ring toss at the exact same time.
"It was one thing to win a huge prize by myself but to win it on the same day as my little sister it was crazy," said my 19-year old daughter Brianne.
My 17-year old daughter Addison agreed. "Yes, it was really fun," said Addie. We tried to repeat the magic, but hundreds of rings missed their mark.
It was quite simply another little girl's day to make her special memory. We spotted 8-year old Lynette carrying a gigantic Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal.
"I threw the ball and it hit the bucket!" said Lynette.
Another fair family had a Del Mar Dream come true.
"It's great, honestly I never won anything this big so it's exciting," said her mother Lalah.
Her father Tymacha added, "It's amazing. It's overwhelming. I got to take it to the car because it's not something I want to walk around with all day."
I asked Lynette if this was the greatest day she ever had at San Diego County Fair.
"Yeah, ha, ha, for sure," she said.
The San Diego County Fair is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays ,but open every other day of the week until Sunday, July 7th.
