San Diego muralist adds splash of color to Point Loma with 'Sky's the Limit'

Sarah Stieber is hosting a mural reveal party with free wine on Saturday, January 13 at 3 pm.

SAN DIEGO — There's a new splash of color brightening the Point Loma skyline. In this Zevely Zone, I got the very first look at a new mural.

"Stop and open your eyes," said Sarah Stieber. The well-known muralist has been at it again; this time taking her paintbrush to Point Loma.

"It's called Sky's the Limit. I just finished it." The mural shows one person lifting another into the sky and painting their dreams into reality.

"Clearly it's a giant painting in the sky so I loved the idea of continuing the skyline," said Sarah.

Sarah painted a rainbow as a toddler and declared herself an artist for life. From her house to Banker's Hill, to Hillcrest, Sarah leaves a trail of color wherever she goes.

"This is called the Monsaraz Hotel. It's a boutique hotel by Hilton," said Sarah about her 21-foot-tall mural. Sky's the Limit was commissioned by the Point Loma Association and pays homage to the Portuguese heritage.

"Point Loma is a community that is heavily inspired by the Portuguese community that lives here and so in an effort to honor the Portuguese influence I featured an airplane that is Portuguese that is actually flying toward the airport," said Sarah who wants to invite San Diegans to her reveal party on Saturday, January 13.

"It's going to be a proper reveal where they cover the painting and reveal it," said Sarah. The Monsaraz Hotel is located at 1451 Rosecrans Street. Sarah wants to meet you on the corner of Scott Street and Garrison Street at 3 p.m.

The curtain will drop at 3:15 pm sharp. The first 50 people who arrive 21 years of age and older will receive blue sparkling wine.

"Because I always have to match the art," said Sarah.

Sarah was wearing a rainbow dress for our interview because she hopes party goers will dress up as the sky.

"So, they can wear rainbows, clouds, sky prints, stars whatever they want," said Sarah.

Hang around Sarah long enough and you learn the Sky's the Limit. For more information about Sarah's art and design click here.
