SAN DIEGO — A popular San Diego Street performer is sharing his message of positivity. In this Zevely Zone, I met Joe Dreamz. The Padres season may be over, but Joe Dreamz is still singing and swinging for the fences. If you're a Padres fan, Joe Dreamz is already a household name but if you're not, he wants you to know the message behind his music. "How can I spread love? That is really the only thing I think about is how can I spread love," said Joe Dreamz.
Joe Dreamz was born and raised in San Diego. You'd think people would love this street performer everywhere he goes, but that's not the case. On his social media page there are videos of people calling him names and threatening to shut him down. "Her problem was that her love tank was low," said Joe about a woman who confronted him.
In another video, Joe Dreams gets shoved. It happened last year, in New York after the Padres beat the Mets. Joe performed his hit song Slam Diego and got slammed himself by a Mets fan. Joe did not fight back. "If your mindset is how can I spread love and putting your energy into the audience if someone pushes you that's still your mindset. Plus, I've dealt with these situations for years." Joe Dreamz is so beloved by Padre fans, he was flown to New York to sing that song and support the team.
But when police shut him down and even confiscate his gear this upbeat 28-year-old says officers are just doing their job. He admits there are certain times and places where he shouldn't be performing and is breaking the rules. "Yeah, I can agree there are definitely times where I could be more responsible and keeping my volume at a more reasonable level," said Joe Dreamz.
Recently at a city council meeting, Joe Dreamz stood up for street buskers. "I know you think I am going to ruin your peace and quiet, and no matter what proposal I make you'll probably fight it," said Joe Dreamz. "The mission is to inspire people to live their dreams."
After earning degrees in high school and college, Joe got a real job then left it all behind. "How much more likely are you to succeed when you are doing something you love doing?" asked Joe Dreamz. "I finally mustered up the courage to take that leap of faith and my life has been so much better from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to the sleep I just absolutely have joy."
He plans to make it in this world as a musician and mentor. When he visits schools, kids treat him like a rock star. "It feels great, and I just hope the message stays with them," said Joe Dreamz. "One of my biggest goals is to get this show in schools all over the country because I think the younger generation really needs to hear that message of living your dreams."
I often end interviews by offering people an open mic, but this was a first when Joe Dreamz ad libbed this rap. "I like how you add positivity to the news because when I watch CNN it be all about the blues, and I really like how you give interviews and I hope this interview gets a million views," rapped Joe Dreamz.
Joe Dreamz has more than 50 songs on Spotify.
Dressed in a shirt that reads City Connect, Joe 'Dreamz' of uniting us all. He wants to share his positive message with students across San Diego County. If you are a principal or school administrator looking for more information about booking Joe Dreams for a school assembly click here.
