Zevely Zone thanks CBS viewers with 'Goodie Bags' on his way to a special delivery

In 2024, CBS 8 turns 75 years old and will celebrate the milestone by repeatedly thanking viewers for their loyalty.

SAN DIEGO — CBS 8 is San Diego's oldest television station, and a huge part of our success is owed to our viewers. In this Zevely Zone, I passed out 'Goodie Bags' on my way to a special delivery at St. Madeleine Sophie's Center. CBS 8 has the most wonderful viewers and sometimes it's nice just to say thank you.

"CBS 8 whoa!," yelled a trolley filled with people along the Embarcadero. Tommy, the driver of the trolley wanted to say hello.

"Hi Marcella. Hi Carlo," said Tommy.  CBS 8 viewers are the reason we get up in the morning, so we spent the day passing out "Goodie Bags. "Oh, we got sunglasses," said one viewer named Lisa.

"Thank you so much, " said Imee and Ruel who watch Neda, Eric and Evan in the morning, Heather in the afternoon and at night?

"Marcella Lee and Carlo Cecchetto," said Ruel. "Karlene Chavis and Shawn Styles." Our super fans watch on the weekends too.

"Steve Price, Keristen Holmes," they said and for Sports fan, Jake, John and Marcus.

"I've watched Channel 8 News ever since I was a little kid," said Robert who made lifelong commitments to Charger tattoos and CBS 8.

"It's better than the rest, it's more informative, and it's pretty much more honest than the other ones," said Robert.

Jesse Pagan? "Yeah!" said a viewer named Luis who told me he wants to sit down and have beer with Jesse. We then bumped into attorney Eugene Iredale called Marcella and Carlo appointment television.

"Both of them, they do so well the both of them," said Eugene.

A few weeks ago, we tagged along with Meals on Wheels. A volunteer from St. Madeleine Sophie's Center asked me for a CBS 8 T-shirt. CBS 8's Community Affairs Director Josh Meza dug into his bag of gifts.

"I think you asked us for an extra large Channel 8 T-shirt," I said to Lynn during our special delivery.

And for the capper? Photojournalist Scott Hall gave Lynn the CBS 8 hat right off of his head. Lynn was overwhelmed with joy.

Her friends with special needs at St. Madeleine Sophie's Center were also treated to CBS 8 gifts like balls, pencils, posters, sunglasses, backpacks and more.

"CBS 8 is simply the best," said Eugene. We're always working for you San Diego, and this was our little way to send a big thank you. "Hey, thank you CBS 8," said Josh from Smokin J's BBQ.

In 2024, CBS 8 turns 75! To celebrate the milestone, we'll continue to thank our viewers for their loyalty as well as recognize the oldest businesses in San Diego.
