SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A domestic dispute at a Clairemont home left a woman dead and her alleged killer -- her adult son -- hospitalized and expected to face a murder charge, authorities reported Tuesday.
The suspect, 30-year-old Joseph Burks of San Diego, made a 911 call about 7:15 p.m. Monday to report having been injured in a knife assault at a house in the 4300 block of Mount Putnam Avenue, according to police.
Patrol officers arrived to find Burks standing in front of the residence, Lt. Todd Griffin said. They detained him, then went inside and found 58-year-old Angela Burks on the floor, suffering from stab wounds to her upper body.
Medics took the woman to a trauma center, where she was pronounced dead.
Her son also was taken to a hospital, where he was admitted for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds.
"He will be booked into county jail for murder when he is released from (medical) care," Griffin said.
Burks was a teacher at Otay Ranch High School. The Sweetwater school district released released the following statement about her passing:
