Man found dead in woman's swimming pool identified

Police were investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a swimming pool Sunday in the 1000 block of Terrace Crest.

EL CAJON (CNS) - Authorities identified a man whose body was found earlier Sunday in a swimming pool in the 1000 block of Terrace Crest.

Jose Luis Rodriguez, 31, was single and leading a transient lifestyle, according to the county Medical Examiner's office.

Rodriguez was found floating and unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool Sunday by owners of the home about 8 a.m.

El Cajon medics were called to remove Rodriguez from the pool and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lt. Tim Henton said El Cajon Police received a couple of calls from residents in the same area at 4 a.m. Sunday reporting a man "running around in the neighborhood."

"We sent units out but they couldn't find him, he may have been hiding out," said Henton. "The body in the pool this morning fit the description of that man."

Henton said there was no sign of trauma on the drowning victim's body.

"It looked like he may have been running through these yards and ended up by accident in a pool," Henton said. "One of the neighbors who saw him said he looked like he might have been under the influence of drugs."

An investigation is continuing.
