Manhunt on for escaped California prison inmate

LIVINGSTON, Calif. (AP) — State and local law enforcement officers are searching for a convicted murderer who managed to escape the California prison guards who were transporting him through Merced County.

Television station KFSN in Fresno reports that 34-year-old Jeffrey Scott Landers was being taken to Stockton from Wasco State Prison in Kern County when he fled on Saturday night near the city of Livingston.

No details on the circumstances surrounding the getaway were immediately available. But the Merced County Sheriff's Department says Landers is considered highly dangerous.

Landers is serving time for the August 2011 stabbing death of 61-year-old Moses Duron in Riverside.
