SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) — Bay Park neighbors couldn't believe what they were seeing on Thursday when they caught sight of a naked man using a hose to shower in a backyard. Police believe he is the same man who broke into a nearby home to steal clothing and jewelry.
Residents near Denver and Ashton streets in Bay Park said they saw a lot more of the man than they wanted to. The naked man was spotted by a neighbor in Judith Babbitt Gould's backyard
"She noticed there was a strange man in my backyard who was not wearing any clothes showering with my hoses," said Babbitt Gould.
When officers arrived, the man was on the ground continuing to wash himself with the hose, according to a San Diego Police Department officer.
But before the backyard bath, another neighbor says the man broke into her house.
"He's been into everything, even the refrigerator," said 97-year-old Gwen Gibbs who thinks the man got in through a bedroom window.
"There was wet clothes," said Gibbs. "I had a little pile of dirty clothes in my bedroom and he took a shirt that was in the dirty pile tried it on, but it didn't fit him, so he dumped it in the front bedroom."
Cameras captured the suspect pressing his face against the glass in the police car, mumbling to himself.
Gibbs said, if anything, she's grateful for this:
"I'm glad I saw that he came out with a towel on him."
