SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Fire Department rescued a 16-year-old girl stuck nearly 7 feet deep inside the sand in Mission Beach near Belmont Park.
First responders arrived at Mission Beach at around 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. A crowd of beachgoers watched over San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel as they dug into the sand attempting to rescue the 16-year-old girl stuck underneath.
Dozens of first responders worked quickly to help rescue the girl who was stuck beneath the sand as the waves were moving up the beach at high tide. The San Diego Fire Department told CBS 8 that the girl was digging in the sand with friends when she fell into the hole. Officials said that while most of her body was buried, her head was above the sand.
The girl was pulled out of the hole with the help of San Diego Fire-Rescue lifeguards. Chopper 8 aerials showed the girl walking off of the beach with the help of first responders and treated at the scene.
It's unknown if the girl sustained any injuries.
