SAN DIEGO — The world-famous Blue Angels are flying from the sky to the big screen this summer with a new documentary featuring a San Diego County United States servicemember.
The movie will bring the audience behind the scenes as the renowned Blue Angels, made up of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps service members, practice and perform daring stunts in the sky at airshows around the world.
Petty Officer 1st Class Miguel Laureano Garibaldi, a San Diego County native and Mar Vista High School graduate, is one of the skilled Blue Angels servicemembers featured in the documentary.
Laureano Garibaldi graduated from Mar Vista High School in 2010 and has been in the Navy for more than 11 years.
"Growing up, my parents often moved because of their jobs, so I went to many different schools," said Laureano Garibaldi. "I had to learn to adapt quickly to new experiences, scenarios, people, etc., to be successful. This definitely helped me once I joined the Navy. I thrived and overcame the challenges I had to face."
The feature film is set for IMAX release on May 17 and is available on Amazon Prime on May 23.
The Navy Office of Community Outreach said the feature film, “follows aviators new to the Blue Angels through the rigorous training process required to perform with the team and keep up with the nonstop pace of the airshow season.”
The Blue Angels have become a must-see for the tens of thousands of spectators who attend the annual Miramar Air Show held at MCAS Miramar.
"It means so much to me to have the opportunity to proudly show my parents the part I can play in naval aviation, and then showcase the level of perfection we try to achieve with the Blue Angels to a broader audience to expand the appreciation for our military," said Laureano Garibaldi.
