SAN DIEGO — The USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier returned to its homeport of San Diego Tuesday morning as part of the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group. The group is made up of ships, aircraft, and more than 6,000 Sailors, capable of carrying out a wide variety of missions around the globe.

They had been deployed for 9-months as part of a deployment supporting global maritime security operations.
They were initially deployed to the Indo-Pacific region and later ordered to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility to strengthen U.S. military force posture and capabilities throughout the Middle East in light of escalating regional tensions according to an advisory sent by U.S. 3rd Fleet Public Affairs.
The USS Theodore Roosevelt spent 18 months undergoing renovations in Washington State beginning in 2021 The ship arrived back in Naval Base North Island with nearly 3,000 Sailors on board in March 2023.
The now 37-year-old ship was at a shipyard in Washington State where it had its combat systems modernized and its flight deck retrofitted to accommodate various aircraft. The crew's living quarters and onboard bathrooms were also redone, as well as preventative maintenance and restoration of the ship's hull, rudders and rudder shafts.
