SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Naval Base San Diego is continuing its commitment to help the environment by installing an electric vehicle charging station outside its Navy Exchange retail store.
Friday, a grand opening ceremony was held for the electric vehicle charging station; the first to open at a West Coast Navy Exchange.
California is considered one of the largest markets for electric cars and Naval Base San Diego says it made perfect sense to install the charging stations.
"The base for the past four years had been recognized at the highest levels of Navy Leadership for its excellence in environment and energy stewardship," said U.S. Navy Capt. Winton Smith.
Officials say providing the infrastructure to support electric vehicles will help improve the quality of life for Military families shopping at the Navy Exchange.
