SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Plans to build a 2,000-seat sports complex near Crawford High and Horace Mann Middle School is being met with resistance.
Jim Zumbiel bought his El Cerrito home with its beautiful views three years ago, but now worries he may have to move.
"We will move, we will absolutely move. We will not put up with this," he said.
He lives just blocks from the site of a proposed multi-million dollar expansion project at Crawford High School and Horace Mann Middle School. It includes a new sports stadium, with giant lighting poles.
"We're talking about glaring lights blaring PA system til 11 p.m. at night," Zumbiel said.
He's also concerned about increased traffic and parking. His biggest fear is if the San Diego Unified School District rents the stadium out to a third party, use of it could increase significantly.
"We're not against the school, were not against stadium, but this renting of the stadium out has nothing to do with students. This is not about the children," Zumbiel said.
This isn't the first time the district has run into problems when it comes to modernizing their athletic facilities. At Hoover High School, they went through a lengthy legal battle over the district's use of Prop S, funding to pay for the stadium lights.
The district also ran into opposition from neighbors near Clairemont High School and Point Loma. A user named "Pro Point Loma" posted a video on YouTube showing the impact the lights have had on residents near Clairemont High.
Meanwhile back near Crawford High, other residents like Joan Cook worry.
"I think it's going to create such a chasm between the school and this neighborhood," she said. "I hope they think long and hard about what they're considering."
