Kaiser Permanente’s new San Diego Medical Center is set to open in April 2017, after nearly three years of construction. The new state-of-the-art Medical Center, located in Kearny Mesa at Ruffin Road and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, will add to Kaiser Permanente’s San Diego footprint, which already includes the existing Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center located off Mission Gorge Road, as well as 23 Medical Offices throughout the County

“Everything in our new medical center, from the patient rooms to the meal service, has been patient centered in its design,” said Jane Finley, Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Kaiser Permanente in San Diego.

The new Medical Center will feature a 24-hour emergency department with 39 private treatment areas. There will be 321 private patient rooms and the capacity to add 129 additional rooms. Several new technologies will be implemented to support high quality care and an enhanced patient experience.

For example, all patient rooms will feature a 75-inch monitor that gives patients bedside access to on-demand education, room controls, room service, Internet access and entertainment. This is meant to give patients greater control over their care experience and create a positive, healing environment.

An integrated video visit platform will allow physicians to virtually meet with their patients as needed. Advanced technology will improve communications between patients and all the members of their care team.

Each patient room will also be equipped with a special lighting system that mimics the natural rhythms of daylight, which improves health and well-being.

The San Diego Medical Center will also feature specialty services, including an intensive care unit, maternal child health services, pediatrics, emergency department, interventional radiology, vascular, thoracic and spine surgery, a robotics program and neonatal intensive care unit.
