PETA encourages public to watch 'Blackfish'

PETA members demonstrated downtown against what they say is poor treatment of orcas by SeaWorld.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - PETA members demonstrated downtown against what they say is poor treatment of orcas by SeaWorld.

Wednesday's protest was held in conjunction with the airing of the documentary "Blackfish" on CNN Thursday night.

PETA says "Blackfish" has brought attention to the plight of orcas and dolphins at SeaWorld and it is encouraging people to watch it.

"The message that 'Blackfish' promotes is one that we completely agree with. It's that these animals don't deserve to be separated from their mothers, don't deserve to be housed in incompatible pods or forced to spend their life begging for food in extreme captivity," said Matt Bruce a campaigner with PETA.

SeaWorld representatives say Blackfish withholds key facts about SeaWorld, including that it has rescued, rehabilitated and returned to the wild hundreds of wild animals including orcas.
