SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pickup truck towing a trailer caught fire on a South Bay freeway ramp on Saturday afternoon, and the flames spread to nearby brush before firefighters were able to get them out.

Dispatchers were told just before 1:30 p.m. that a Chevrolet Avalanche pulling a trailer was on fire in the right shoulder of the transition ramp from southbound Interstate 805 to eastbound state Route 905, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.

The fire was reportedly spreading very quickly into nearby vegetation, and CHP officers quickly closed the ramp.

A small patch of brush burned and firefighters were able to get the flames out shortly after they arrived at the scene, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.

An ambulance was initially called for a woman inside the pickup, but she was determined to be uninjured and ultimately did not have to be taken to a hospital, Munoz said.
