ESCONDIDO (CNS) - Escondido police Saturday were investigating a shooting that left a 15-year-old boy hospitalized in serious condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
Escondido police were called to a reported shooting in the 300 block of North Juniper Street, near East Third Avenue, about 4:40 p.m. Friday, according to police Lt. Chris Wynn.
Officers arrived to find the 15-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the sidewalk on the east side of the street, Wynn said.
Paramedics responded and took the boy to a hospital to be treated.
Police have identified the victim but have declined so far to release his name, Wynn said.
The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was on or near a bicycle when a silver car, possibly with four doors, pulled up alongside him, Wynn said.
A male suspect got out of the vehicle, approached the victim, shot him several times, then got back into the vehicle. It was last seen by witnesses headed north on Juniper Street, Wynn said.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s with slicked back hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and black pants.
Police have not yet determined what led to the shooting, Wynn said.
Detectives and forensic specialists have processed the scene for evidence and interviewed known witnesses, Wynn said, and the investigation was ongoing.
Escondido police asked anyone with information on the incident to contact their Crimes of Violence Unit at (760) 839-4717.
